  by Hal Quinn

Manyof you know me as "Harold Quinn" or just plain "Hal".

But I have toadmit that I am also known as “Hal B. Bunny”.

I will attempt toexplain this problem in my conclusion.

I decided tonarrow down my speech to 3 topics that I believe best explain who I am:

1.    Where I have lived and worked.

2.    My favorite Hobbies.

3.    What is in store for the next month

Where I've Lived and Worked:

Iwas born in 1960 in Augusta, Georgia. My parents were both teachers and some ofthe fondest memories I have, as a child was to take off 2 months in the summerand travel around the country.

Myelementary school and high school days were spent in Georgia.

Myfamily moved from Augusta to Statesboro to Covington Georgia as my father foundbetter teaching jobs.

Istarted college at Georgia Southern College but transferred to West GeorgiaCollege in Carrolton, Ga.  At West Georgia College, I met and married a truly wonderfulLady my wife - Beth.  Little did sheknow but I was about to uproot her from her 1st and 2ndgrade class as a teacher to take her to Missouri. She and her parents were a little bit apprehensive of this move. She decided to go with me anyway.

Welived in Missouri for 2 years while I attended graduate school to receive my MSin Geology.

Aftergraduating from Missouri, I landed my first job in Washington, DC with theDefense Mapping Agency.  We livedthere or 10 years in Gaithersburg Maryland. In addition to DMA, I worked for OAO and CSC in the software developmentarea during this time.  TheWashington DC area was very exciting for us especially when we were in our20’s and 30’s.  We had an opportunity to get season tickets to the NationalSymphony and attended many different cultural activities. We also became volunteers for the Capital Area Council Boy Scouts,Gaithersburg Heritage Alliance and the Adventures in Science Program forelementary school children.

In1994 my wife and I had had enough of the traffic and crowdedness of the DC areaand we moved here to Huntsville where we plan to stay as long as possible.

My favorite Hobbies include Scuba Diving, hiking andcamping and playing guitar:

MyDad and I took a scuba diving lesson when I was 14. I remember it being a real challenge to face some of the fear that comeswith diving.  At the same time whenI accomplished this course I felt that I had succeeded at accomplishingsomething very significant.  Travelswith my father took us to dive the springs in northern Florida, West Palm Beach,Panama City and the Bahamas.  Iregrettably did not get a chance to continue to dive during the time I was incollege.

Ipicked the hobby back up in 1989 when I carefully talked my wife into taking alesson with me.  We have had theopportunity to dive in many places in the Caribbean, the Mid-Atlantic and justrecently Pacific diving in Costa Rica.

Anotherhobby we enjoy is Hiking and Camping that has involved exploring some of thebeautiful parts of Alabama such as Cheaha and Sipsie and Monte Santo. When we are not doing these outdoor activities there is nothing morerelaxing than sitting on the front porch and playing guitar.

In conclusion I would like to describe “What is in store for the nextmonth:”

Thiswill be a very exciting time of our lives. My wife and I are leaving forBolivia, South America to adopt a child.  Wehave waited a long time to do this so we are getting very anxious.

Andspeaking of children I need to explain the name Hal B. Bunny. My wife served as the director of a day care center in Olney, Maryland.  The children had just found a pet rabbit but had no name forit.  So they heard my wife talkingto me on the phone and addressing me as Halbe. Well that is all the encouragement they needed. They named the bunny and myself "Hal B. Bunny." Whenever I would pick Beth up at the Day care center they would shout“Hal B. Bunny.”  I never reallyunderstood the connection but we may have to ponder that question at a latertime.
